Isabel Burton obituaries

This is a bound volume of newspaper obituaries for Isabel Burton, compiler unknown, made in the 19th century. The album has the modern bookplate of Burke E. Casari, a previous owner, pasted onto the inside front cover. Two pieces of ephemera are also enclosed: Sir Richard F. Burton Memorial Fund [printed pamphlet] and a list of the obituaries in the album, typed by B.E. Casari.

The nine miniature mounted cloth samples of needlework and knitting consist of: a blue printed cotton pinafore; a linen shift-sleeve; a fine lawn infant's shirt; a fine cotton gentleman's shirt; a frilled and tucked baby's bonnet; a long woollen undergarment trimmed with silk; a darning sampler; a cross-stitch alphabet sampler in red thread; and a cream worsted stocking. The pages on which samples have been attached are included in the pagination. "List of the prices of work done by the girls"--page 26.

Manuscripts
The collection contains correspondence, 12 photographs, bulletins, memoranda, and other printed materials assembled by Edythe N. Backus related to the Colorado River Relocation Center at Poston, AZ. Also included are copies of The Poston chronicle and Poston High and Junior High School annuals, newspapers, and bulletins. The 141 pieces of correspondence are primarily by Japanese-Americans as they reintegrated to American society outside the center. The collection also includes watercolor drawings of camp scenes by Kastsumi Natagawa and H. Yoshizumi.
