Naropa Institute : Summer 1977
Rare Books
"Naropa Institute is based on a view of education that demands both discipline and openness in their more profound sense. Inspired by a buddhist approach to education--one that combines meditation with intellectual and artistic study--the Institute seeks to stimulate the wisdom and understanding we inherently possess and to bring out its clear and precise expression. Classes at the Institute are based solidly within eastern and western traditions of dance, poetry, theater, visual arts, psychology, philosophy and science. Interdisciplinary boundaries are clear but open so that traditions may interact through the personal inspiration of students and faculty"--From page 4.

The three roads
Rare Books
"This is the story of a man whose sanity and chance for happiness depend on his ability to recapture his unremembered past. The Doctors know that the reason for Brett Taylors's mental suffering is guilt, but they point out that although guilt is normally thought of as the result of sin, it may really be its cause; their theory being that the sense of some guilt may have worked on Brett until he was driven to crime. Following the belief that nothing in a person's life is ever really forgotten--in a sense that with the right encouragement any memory can be recalled--Brett is determined to trace his life back to the point where his memory failed, and to find the reason for it. Paula, who knows what happened, believes that his mental health is not strong enough to stand the strain of knowing what was done. She knows, and is being blackmailed because she knows, that the cause of all his suffering is the mental shrinking of a brutal unsolved murder, and she is very much afraid"--Dust jacket.

Yet happiness is rare. Why? Mr. Bertrand Russell, who is recognised as one of the leading minds of our generation, propounds the solution and discusses the manner in which the mind may be directed so that happiness ensues"--From dust jacket.

The Kama sutra of Vatsyayana
Rare Books
"The Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana, a Sanskrit book of about the third century A.D., has for long been honoured in India as the earliest Indian treatise on the science and art of sex and love. It describes social customs in early India, analyses sexual techniques and comments on the many different situations in which men and women of the day might find themselves involved and how best these should be dealt with. Its purpose is to discover in what ways happiness and enjoyment can be best achieved. While sharing the Indian attitude to love as an ecstatic experience, it assumes that sexual happiness is founded on scientific knowledge and to this end it provides a series of chapters based on the practical experience of sex. In this respect it is a forerunner of the marriage guidance books of today. The Kama Sutra underlies all later Indian writings on love including Sanskrit love poetry and is a classic contribution to Indian culture"--dust jacket.
