The text includes numerous added/inserted shorter texts; it is misbound and many leaves are missing. ff. 177v (rubric only), 182-217v, 164-172v. [Gerard Zerbolt van Zutphen] Van geestelijke opclimmingen. Dutch. This is the Dutch translation of De spiritualibus ascensionibus. ff. 218-231. [Pseudo Bernard] Prekel der mynnen. Dutch. This is the Dutch translation of Stimulus amoris; for the Latin text, see PL 184:953-966. Back flyleaf. [Breviary?] Latin. Containing part of the rite for visiting the sick, here with feminine forms in the original text, and the masculine forms supplied in superscript.     A manuscript commonplace book, with text written in several different hands. The volume is written mostly in English but also contains French and German; though no country of origin is identified, it appears to be mainly British in subject. The text includes seven pages of index in the beginning of the volume; there are also rough drawings in pencil and pen, as well more finely executed pen and ink illustrations. The text covers an extraordinary range of subjects, including technical inventions and developments, animal husbandry, recipes, political comment, sports, current events, travel, medicinal cures, economics, wine, and many other topics. The volume is bound in late 18th century three-quarter calf gilt, red edges, with some wear to the binding.

    François Arago letter to James Silk Buckingham

    Letter written by François Arago to James Silk Buckingham. Arago wrote the letter from Paris in his capacity as secretary of the Académie Royale des Sciences, Institutes de France, addressing Buckingham as the Commandent de Buckingham, Paris. The letter regards Buckingham's published prospectus for a voyage around the world, Esquisse d'un Plan de Voyage autour du Monde par la Route des Indes, de la Chine, du Japon et des îles de l'Océan Pacifique: Ayant pour but les Intérêts Combinés des Découvertes, de la Civilisation et du Commerce. The letter is in French. A second page of writing consists of Buckingham's address.
