The correspondence series contains 961 letters and is organized alphabetically by author. The series consists of a large number of letters written to the Jacobs brothers and their mercantile and banking operations. The collection includes letters from individual customers and businesses regarding their accounts, letters from other banking institutions regarding customers, and letters from suppliers and shippers regarding the mercantile business. The correspondence also includes a significant number of letters written within the Jacobs family. There are number of early letters from Mark Jacobs to his wife, Hannah, as well as a few written to his sons, Lionel and Barron. There are also quite a few letters written by Lionel to Barron as well as a few from their youngest brother, Albert, and a number from their sisters and brothers-in-law. The financial documents series contains 2,191 documents, sorted and alphabetized by type and then by institution or organization. The bulk of financial documents consist of processed checks, collection and returns forms, and receipt postal cards. The financial documents also include account books, balance sheets, bills, inventory lists, order forms, protest cards, receipts, and tax receipts. These documents reflect both the mercantile and banking enterprises of the Jacobs family including L. M. Jacobs and Company, Pima County Bank, Agency Pima County Bank, Cochise County Bank, and First National Bank.

The collection consists of personal and business correspondence, political papers, account books, legal documents, and land papers related to the Patton family, and is particularly focused on the activities of George Smith Patton (1856-1927). Topics covered include railroads, Patton's senate campaign, irrigation, land sales, and the development of the San Marino area. Notable businesses represented in the collection include the Wilmington Transportation Company, Porter Brothers Co., San Gabriel Wine Company, Alhambra Addition Water Company, the Lindsay Water Development Company, Garvey Water Company, Huntington Land and Improvement Company, Banning Company, Pasadena Electric Light and Water Company, and the Santa Catalina Island Company. Manuscripts
The manuscripts mainly consist of speeches or short pieces written by Gurdon Wallace Wattles regarding business practices, Nebraska, and his political views. It also includes scripts written by True Boardman. The majority of the correspondence is from Gurdon Wallace Wattles or addressed to him. These letters deal with his business matters in both Nebraska and California, family news and business, and there are many which describe the Wattles House and Gardens, especially the decorating of the Italian garden. There are also letters pertaining to the disposition of his will. Another set of letters describes Wattles' investment in a company which explored sound in film technology. The Ephemera section contains material relating to the Wattles family and their life in California. Among these materials are drawings for the Italian garden, weddings plans for the two daughters, membership cards, invitations to private and public events and photographs of the family on vacation and at the Wattles property. There are also materials related to the disposition of Wattles' will, some business papers and materials related to musicians the Wattles' supported.
