The first claim in Goler (Jackass Placer) was made in 1893 (Desert bonanaza, Marcia Rittenhouse Wynn, 1963, pages 60-61; Charles A. Koehn, whose name appears on the map, was in the area from the beginning, and after a very colorful career died in 1938 (Desert Fever, Gary Shumway et al., 1980, page 124; accessed at http://www.scribd.com/doc/3427371/Desert-Fever-a-200-year-history-of-mining-in-the-California-Desert-17811981 on March 26th, 2010).
