    Letters and ephemera of Herbert Hoover

    This small group of items includes seven letters by Herbert Hoover to four different addressees: Frederick A. Delano, Bern Dibner, George Zabriskie, and Mr. Hohnhaus (the only letter written while Hoover was President is the one to Delano). There is also a note by Delano regarding the letter he received from President Hoover. Most of the letters are about trivial matters such as Hoover thanking the person for some favor. Also in this small group of items are three signed printed speeches given by Herbert Hoover, including his inaugural address (1929), "This Crisis in American Life" (1948), and "The Inheritance of the Next Generation" (1961).

    The first letter was written to Mr. Boyd in the third person as Ellen Tree and not signed (HM 63345); the second was written to [Mr. Lovell] and signed Ellen Kean (HM 63346).

    This incomplete letter was written by an unknown person from the Hotel Arcadia in Santa Monica, California. The author was on vacation in southern California and talks about touring in California, the weather, and plans to go home via San Francisco.

    Edward Everett Hale letter to John S. Lockwood

    The letter reads: "My dear Mr. Lockwood, I can do nothing about this until I can see people, which will not happen for a month to come. I will then do my best." The addressee is probably John S. Lockwood, formerly of the publishing company Lockwood, Brooks & Co. The letter is written on "Lend a Hand Monthly" letterhead, although the letter was written from Matunuck, Rhode Island.
