    One postcard publisher's advertisement for a portfolio entitled Art Ages, by Pedro J. Lemos, published by School Arts Magazine, Worcester, Massachusetts, ca. 1929. This advertisement is folded into thirds, and is illustrated with reproductions of some of the plates found in the portfolio. The bottom third of the advertisement is a business reply postcard. This piece is addressed to: "Miss Mabel Spofford, Art Supervisor, Gloucester Public Schools, Gloucester, Massachusetts." Title supplied by cataloger.

    One set of art reproductions entitled The Seaside in Art, by Pedro J. Lemos, published by The School Arts Magazine, The Davis Press, Worcester, Massachusetts, 1922. A portfolio of 16 numbered plates of various images of the ocean, ships, fish, shells, etc. comprise the set, which is accompanied by an 8-page introduction by Pedro J. Lemos. Each numbered plate contains a few lines of descriptive or explanatory text below the images. The represented artworks are by various artists. "The Seaside in Art" is printed in the upper left-hand corner of each plate, along with a category in the upper right-hand corner: Plates 1-2 Marine Painting; Plate 3 Outdoor Sketches; Plate 4 Wave Studies; Plate 5 The Sea Coast; Plate 6 Decorative Composition; Plate 7 Sea Scenes; Plate 8 Seaweeds; Plate 9 Shell Fish Designs; Plate 10 Sea Shell Designs; Plate 11 Decorative Fish; Plate 12 Applied Fish Designs; Plate 13 Ship Designs; Plate 14 Ship Designs; Plate 15 Applied Sea Designs; Plate 16 Applied Ship Designs. The plates are housed in an illustrated folder. A blind embossed letter "S" (Mabel Spofford) is stamped at the top of each of the plates.

    One flyer for a lecture entitled Art in Every Day Life, by Gerrit A. Beneker, Truro, Massachusetts, ca. 1933. This 8-page leaflet is a promotional piece for a lecture given by Gerrit A. Beneker, "Artist, Lecturer, Author." This brochure features reproductions of 4 of his works, "The Alabama Kid"; "Men are Square"; "A Constructive Radical" and a Victory Liberty Loan poster, in addition to a photograph of Beneker himself. The brochure excerpts a description of Beneker from Who's Who in America 1932-1933, and commendations about Beneker's lecture. It also includes a statement by Beneker, and lists of articles about his work. The date of the lecture is not given. This brochure is a single sheet, double-sided, and folded into fourths.

    One portfolio of nine leaflets by the Munsell Color Co., Inc., entitled Color in Painting: a portfolio of eight leaflets with notes on the use of color in the paintings which are reproduced in direct color from the originals, by Margaret McAdory, published by Binney & Smith Company, New York, copyright 1926. The eight images reproduced on these leaflets are listed on the front cover of the portfolio: "The Nativity" by Luini; "The Lace Maker" by Vermeer; "The Blessing" by Chardin; "Still Life" by Chardin; "Madame le Brun" by Le Brun; "The Dance of the Nymphs" by Corot; "The Gleaners" by Millet; and "Nymph Pool" by Monet. This portfolio is folded into thirds; the left-hand flap contains text, and the right-hand flap serves as the front cover. The center section holds the leaflets, and on the bottom protective flap is printed "Compliments of Binney & Smith Company, Makers of Crayons and Water Color Paints, New York". The back cover of the portfolio features a bibliography. The first leaflet (4 p.) discusses the "General Instructions for the Study of Color". Each of the subsequent leaflets is a folded single sheet (4 p.), with the portfolio title above a 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" (approx.) reproduction of each painting. The text within each leaflet discusses the painting, addressing both color and composition. The last page of each is an in-depth color analysis, with charts, of the painting and reference to isolated elements and the Munsell Color system.
