One set of art appreciation posters created by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 1926. The set of 55 posters is housed within 5 large envelopes; there are 23 different posters, with duplicate copies of 9 of the 23. All of the posters contain black and white reproductions of photographs. Accompanying the posters within the first folder is a large piece of brown wrapping paper on which is written in ms.: "Mabel Spofford; from Boston Museum of Fine Arts, received April 7. 1956 art appreciation posters." The posters vary in size, but all are large. What follows is a listing of the contents of each envelope; the title at the top of the poster has been transcribed. One flyer entitled The Browne Art Class, Privincetown-on-Cape Cod, Mass., instruction by George Elmer Browne, N.A., Provincetown, Massachusetts, 1941. Below the instructor's name on the front is: "Season of 1941. June 30th to September 1st." This advertising/informational brochure for summer art classes is 8 pages in length, including front and back covers. It describes the types of classes offered and terms, among other things, and includes several black and white illustrations, most of which are reproductions of works by George Elmer Browne.

Three portfolios of paper art samples from Germany

Three portfolios of samples from Germany which represent various forms of art with paper: paperweaving, sewing cards and paper-cutting and folding. The first set, in Env. 1, is entitled Flecht -u.-Ausuäh Schule; the second, in Env. 2, Versdur-u.-Buchzeichen Schule (Stringing and Bookmarking School); and the third, in Env. 3, Falt-u.-Ausscheide Schule (Folding and Cutouts School). The name "Louise Chur" is stamped at the bottom of the front cover of each of the three portfolios. The first portfolio contains 24 numbered (in ms.) samples of paper weaving, each labeled "Blott" and has "Louise Chur" written in ms., in ink, in the upper right-hand corner. Each sheet measures 5 3/4 in. W x 8 3/4 in. H ; 14.5 cm. W x 22.2 cm. H. The second portfolio contains a total of 23 samples of artwork; the first 11 of which are completed sewing cards; the next 2 are yarn tracings, and the last 10 are examples of paper weaving and folding. The sizes of the pieces vary. The third portfolio contains 20 examples of paper folding and paper cutouts, mounted onto cardstock. Much of the paper folding samples are reminiscent of origami. Each completed, mounted piece measures 8 in. W x 10 3/8 in. H ; 20.3 cm. W x 26.4 cm. H Title supplied by cataloger.

Hull-House Year Book, Forty-Second Year

One yearbook entitled Hull-House Year Book, Forty-Second Year, published by Hull-House, Chicago, Illinois, ca. 1931. This yearbook is 72 numbered pages in length, and contains photographic illustrations and an index. A "Plan of Hull House Buildings" is on the verso of the title page. The yearbook briefly outlines the history, purpose and works of the Hull House, and provides a detailed, illustrated listing of the clubs, courses and activities of the previous year. Information about the Hull House Art School, appears on pages 14-19. The Hull House Studio, children's art classes, art exhibits and pottery classes are also discussed within this section. Other broad sections listed in the yearbook include the music school, dramatics, and men's and women's social clubs. Numerous ms. annotations and marks have been made throughout the book.
